We are not affiliated with any village operator and none of them endorse us. We just do these moves most weeks and know how the buildings work.

Retirement home moving questions
- Do you move into Ryman, Metlifecare and Summerset villages?
- Yes, and into the smaller operators and standalone rest homes too. To be clear about it: we are not an approved or preferred supplier for any village operator, because no such arrangement exists to be part of. Villages let you choose your own mover. What we bring is having done these moves most weeks, so we already know to ask about the lift window and the loading bay rather than finding out on the morning.
- Is a village apartment different from a villa?
- Quite different, and it is the first thing we ask. A ground-floor villa with a door you can park near is a straightforward job. A third-floor apartment usually means a booked lift, a shared loading bay, a sign-in at the gatehouse and sometimes a contractor induction before anyone lifts anything. The second one takes longer and needs the village organised in advance, so the quote is not the same.
- We are organising this for our parents. What should we be asking a mover?
- Ask whether they will come and look before quoting, and be wary of anyone who gives a number in thirty seconds without asking what floor the unit is on. Ask for the quote itemised rather than as one figure. Ask who your point of contact is on the day. And ask what happens to the furniture that does not fit, because that decision arrives whether or not anyone planned for it. A mover who answers those four straight is usually the right one.
- Can you tell us what will actually fit in the new unit?
- Ask the village for the floor plan with dimensions, and we will walk through it with you at the viewing. It is the single most useful thing you can do before move day, because deciding on the driveway is how furniture ends up in storage nobody planned for. Most people find the lounge fits and the bedroom does not.
- How far in advance should we book?
- Three to four weeks for a village move, which is longer than we ask for a house. The constraint is usually not our truck. It is the village lift window, which in the apartment-style complexes can be booked out a fortnight ahead, and settlement on the home you are leaving. Smaller loads and rest-home moves we can often do sooner.
- What areas of Auckland do you cover?
- Every village and rest home in the Auckland region, run out of our North Shore depot. The callout fee rises with distance, so a Takapuna move and a Pukekohe one are not priced the same. If the move is out to the Waikato, our Hamilton branch covers that end from its own depot.
- What happens to the furniture that will not fit the new unit?
- Worth deciding before move day rather than on the driveway. We can drop items to family on the same run, or put them into short-term storage while everyone decides. Tell us at the quote stage so the truck and the route allow for it.
